General description_x000D_
Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) is an aminopolycarboxylic acid and a hexadentate ligand. It chelates with metal ions to form an octahedral complex especially with cations. Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) is an anticoagulant, which prevents clotting of blood. It is implicated in platelet aggregation in pseudothrombocytopenia. EDTA chelates with calcium and is effective in solubilisation of the atheromatous plaques. Calcium disodium EDTA administration is effective in slowing down the progression of chronic kidney disease. It is a chelator used to remove calcium from cell washing and suspension media. EDTA reduces cell clumping._x000D_
Application_x000D_
Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid solution has been used to remove confluent cell monolayers in swine testicular (ST-cells) culture. It has also been used to detach embryonic stem cells (ESCs) from matrigel and primary human fibroblasts._x000D_
