BCRP is a multi-pass membrane protein of the ABC transporter superfamily. It consists of six transmembrane domains and can functions as a homodimer or homotetramer. It contains an ABC transporter domain (aa 37-286) and an ABC transmembrane type-2 domain (aa 389-652). Unlike most of the other ABC transporters, BCRP contains only one nucleotide binding domain (aa 80-87). BCRP is highly expressed in placenta and lower expression is reported in small intestine, liver, and colon.
