It is mapped to chromosome 21q22.3. Endostatin is a 20kDA C-terminal fragment of collagen XVIII that is found in proteoglycan/collagen vessel walls and basement membranes. It helps in inhibiting angiogenesis, tumor growth and also attenuates endothelial cell migration. Endostatin treatment reduces the number of functional blood vessels and the matrix density in the granulation tissue. It is associated with inhibition of chorioallantoic membrane angiogenesis induced by basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF-2) or vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).
