Two domains, p45 and MafG (transcription factor), dimerize to form a composite DNA binding domain. NFE2 positively regulates transcription by binding to a class of specific DNA sequences of erythroid and megakaryocytic genes. Specifically, amino terminal of p45 exerts activator function when binds to several proteins, including the general transcription factor TAFII130 (transcription initiation factor TFIID 130kDa subunit).
