Description_x000D_
General description_x000D_
IL19 (interleukin 19) belongs to the IL-10 family of cytokines, and shares high homology with IL-20 and IL-24 at the primary level. It is further subcategorized into a subfamily containing IL-19, IL-20, and IL-24. It was first discovered in 2001, and its expression is not only limited to leukocytes and is also expressed by angiogenic tissue._x000D_
Biochem/physiol Actions_x000D_
IL19 (interleukin 19) promotes the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-6 and TNF-α, and therefore, participates in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases such as psoriasis, asthma, and rheumatoid arthritis. This protein functions as a strong pro-angiogenic influence on different human EC (endothelial cell) types, such as umbilical vein, coronary artery, and microvascular types. In Th2 (T helper)-mediated colitis rat model IL-19 functions as an anti-inflammatory agent, and might have potential as a therapeutic target for alleviating colonic inflammation._x000D_
