General description_x000D_
Somatostatin (SST) is a peptide._x000D_
Somatostatin is expressed in endocrine cells and nerve fibers of the gastrointestinal tract. It is also expressed in other tissues._x000D_
Application_x000D_
Somatostatin has been used:_x000D_
• as a standard antigen to detect antibodies in an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method_x000D_
• to study the effect of somatostatin on oxytocin release during pregnancy in rats_x000D_
• to test the specificity of the avidin-biotinylated horseradish peroxidase immunocytochemical procedure to visualize somatostatin-immunoreactive (SS-IR) neurons_x000D_
Packaging_x000D_
1, 5, 10 mg in glass bottle_x000D_
Biochem/physiol Actions_x000D_
Somatostatin (SST) performs several functions like anti-proliferation, pro-apoptosis and anti-migration. Somatostatin performs physiological activities with the help of various G protein-coupled receptor subtypes (SST receptor (SSTR)-1, SSTR2A, SSTR2B, and SSTR3-5)._x000D_
Somatostatin regulates the secretion of hormones and bioactive peptides. It acts as an inhibitor in the digestive tract by inhibiting gastrin release. In the pancreatic islets, it inhibits glucagon and insulin release. Somatostatin and its synthetic analogs have been used in the treatment of neuroendocrine tumors._x000D_
Other Notes_x000D_
Lyophilized from 0.1% TFA in H2O
